The Bugorama was started in 1978 and our family has been
involved in the event since 1979. In 1990, after Bugorama #25
was rained out our family became the sole promoters. Our family
also owns and operates Bugformance of Sacramento, a VW parts and
service business and this year we celebrated 32 years in
Sacramento.
Our original event, the Bugorama is held at Sacramento Raceway
two times a year, Memorial and Labor Day weekends. It is a VW
only event that starts on Saturday night with event set up, test
and tune and overnight camping. It starts back up again at 7:00
a.m. on Sunday and ends with the drag racing finals on Sunday
evening around 5:00 p.m. We also have the Worlds largest VW only
swap meet, show & shine and a vendor alley.
The Bugorama is America’s longest running VW event and is World
famous in the VW community. In 1999 we purchased the VW Classic
that is held in Irvine on the second Sunday in June and last
year the VW Classic celebrated its 25th anniversary.
In 1998-1999 we promoted the PRA World finals at Speedworld
Motorplex in Surprise, Arizona. In 2000 we decided to move this
event to the new drag strip at the Las Vegas motor speedway, and
we have promoted our Bugorama in Las Vegas with for the last 10
years.
In 2007, we purchased the rights to the Bugorama in Phoenix, an
event that has been ran at Firebird Raceway for the last 25
years.
In 2009, we decided to add a Bugorama event to Southern
California and on November 1st 2009 we had our 1st
annual Bugorama in So Cal at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana.
